Reed In Command Heading Into Masters Final Round

April 8, 2018

Patrick Reed continued on his surge to claim The Masters crown, holding a three-shot lead heading into the final day of the competition.

The 27-year-old began the day with a narrow lead over Marc Leishman. In wet conditions that allowed for low-scoring rounds, he maintained his high level of play.

Reed will play in the final pairing with Rory McIlroy, evoking memories of their showdown at the 2016 Ryder Cup when the American edged out his European rival.

We’ll now break down the odds for the duo in the bid for the Green Jacket as well as the other contenders.

Reed had a cagey start to his third round, dropping a shot with a bogey on the third hole. However, he settled his nerves with a birdie on the fifth, getting back to even-par on the day. The American began to find his rhythm close to turn, birdieing the eighth and ninth to respond to pressure emanating from the chasing pack, especially McIlroy. The 27-year-old maintained his form on the 10th after a solid approach, sinking a fine effort up the hill.

Inclement weather perhaps knocked him off his rhythm at the 12th as Augusta experienced a brief downpour, with Reed missing a par putt on the par-three hole. However, his response was emphatic, producing the shot of the tournament thus far on the par-five 13th. His long iron into the green was sublime, creating an eagle opportunity, which he snagged. Reed made it two eagles in three holes by chipping in on the 15th. He lost his way towards the end of his round, bogeying the 16th, while the American had to play extremely well on the penultimate hole to save par.

Reed spurned the opportunity to secure a four-shot lead on the 18th, misplacing his birdie putt by a fraction. The 27-year-old came close at the PGA Championship last year, finishing second behind Justin Thomas. However, the final day at The Masters is pressure like nothing else in the game. Back him at 2.25Bet €100 to win €2255/4Bet £100 to win £225+125Bet $100 to win $2251.25Bet HK$100 to win HK$2251.25Bet Rp100 to win Rp225-0.8000Bet RM100 to win RM225  with BetVictor to win the Green Jacket, with composure rather than talent the key ingredient.

Rory McIlroy

McIlroy will be hopeful that Reed produces a similar collapse to his experience in 2011. The Northern Irishman held a four-shot lead heading into the final round, only to crumble under the pressure to spurn his opportunity to win the Green Jacket. McIlroy has not won a major since 2014, and needs only The Masters to complete the Grand Slam, becoming only the sixth man in the history of the sport to achieve the feat.

The 28-year-old’s third round was McIlroy at his best as he was able to attack the flag without fear. It took two holes for him to settle in before he produced a fine putt on the third to notch his first birdie. Two more quickly followed at the fourth and sixth before he chipped in at eighth to notch an eagle and put the pressure on Reed at the top of the leaderboard.

McIroy was not able to build on his impressive start due to a few loose strokes on the back nine. However, he was able to save par to hold his position, including a brilliant effort on the 13th after being entrenched a flowerbed. He found his rhythm towards the end of the round, notching another birdie on the 15th before ending on a high note with a round of seven-under, sinking for a three at the 18th. He has the experience and the hunger to chase down Reed on the final day. Back him for glory at odds of 2.75Bet €100 to win €2757/4Bet £100 to win £275+175Bet $100 to win $2751.75Bet HK$100 to win HK$2751.75Bet Rp100 to win Rp275-0.5714Bet RM100 to win RM275  with Betway.

Rickie Fowler

Fowler has been on form

Fowler has put himself in a position to secure his major, but will need to break away from a trend that has prevented him getting over the line. The American has often built a strong platform in the opening three days, only to fail to build on his performance when it matters the most. The 29-year-old is part of a group of promising players from the States that have enjoyed success, with himself and Reed deemed outsiders at the moment due to the triumphs of Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas and Dustin Johnson. Fowler will be determined to seize the Green Jacket and his drought at the majors.

Fowler  made his intentions clear for the third round, notching an eagle at the second. That set up him for a charge around the course. He built on his early momentum with birdies at the fifth and sixth before notching another at the eight to send him into the turn five-under the day. At that point it looked as though he was on course to post a score in the low teens. Fowler had troubles on the back nine, but held his nerve to make par, which has often been a criticism of his play.

The American ended with two birdies in the final four holes, carding his round of 65. At nine-under for the tournament he’s in play, but cannot afford loose mistakes. Fowler’s discipline will be key and should he hold his nerve, he’s good value at odds of 10.00Bet €100 to win €10009/1Bet £100 to win £1000+900Bet $100 to win $10009.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$10009.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp1000-0.1111Bet RM100 to win RM1000  with 888Sport.

Jon Rahm

Rahm is also in pursuit of the Green Jacket and could make it two wins on the bounce for Spanish players at Augusta following in the footsteps of Sergio Garcia last season. The 23-year-old has not finished in the top 20 of a major tournament before, therefore it would be a massive breakthrough in his career clinch the win. Rahm has surged up the world rankings and was world number three before the start of the competition. He has gradually improved round-by-round at Augusta, justifying his position with a brilliant performance on Saturday.

Rahm started the penultimate round one-under for the tournament, but began with a flourish, notching a birdie on the opening hole. The 23-year-old quickly followed with another birdie at the par-five second, while he remained solid on the course until he reached the eighth. Rahm notched an eagle to enter the turn with momentum. The Spaniard was composed with putter in hand on the 10th, making a fine three following an excellent approach shot. Rahm was flawless around the back nine and found his rhythm again to notch back-to-back birdies on the 16th and 17th before ending with a solid par in wet conditions on the final hole.

He scored a seven-under 65 to move to eight-under for the competition. Rahm will require another impressive outing and help from Reed to drop back to claim the Green Jacket. Back the Spaniard at odds of 19.00Bet €100 to win €190018/1Bet £100 to win £1900+1800Bet $100 to win $190018.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$190018.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp1900-0.0556Bet RM100 to win RM1900  with 888Sport.
