Liverpool to Finish Champions League Job at Man City

April 9, 2018

Liverpool won the Champions League first leg 3-0 against Manchester City.

Liverpool hold a commanding 3-0 lead against Manchester City in the all-English Champions League quarter-final and it looks an uphill task for Pep Guardiola’s side. Tuesday’s match will be a high-octane affair as the Citizens attempt to overhaul that three-goal deficit, but their lack of an away goal from the first leg at Anfield leaves them vulnerable.

Real Madrid also hold a 3-0 advantage over Juventus in their quarter-final and have the added bonus of the second leg at home. Ronaldo led the way as Real decimated the Italians on their own soil, and the defeat was compounded by Dybala’s second-half red card. There is little hope for the Old Lady as they try to turn the tie around and Real’s three away goals give them an extra advantage.

Bayern Munich’s 2-1 win at Sevilla may have been fortunate – due to two deflected goals – but they are a very strong outfit and should progress at the expense of the Spaniards. With two away goals and the second leg at home, the Germans are fancied to complete the job with ease.

Manchester City v Liverpool

Our first bet is on a Man City win and both teams to score at odds of 2.45Bet €100 to win €24529/20Bet £100 to win £245+145Bet $100 to win $2451.45Bet HK$100 to win HK$2451.45Bet Rp100 to win Rp245-0.6897Bet RM100 to win RM245  with 888Sport.

At first glance, this looks a simple task for Pep Guardiola’s side – attack, attack, attack – but it is a little more complicated due to the away goals rule. If Liverpool score once, Manchester City will need to rack up five goals to get through the tie. That’s a highly unlikely turn of events so the Citizens will have to keep things tight at the back and hope their forward players can do the damage at the other end.

The 3-2 home defeat to Manchester United capped off a poor week for City and they will have to wait a little longer before they lift the Premier League trophy. The first-half display was very good though and offers a glimpse of the way they will approach this match from the start.

Liverpool drew 0-0 at Merseyside rivals Everton over the weekend in the Premier League, but it was a much-changed side from Jurgen Klopp. There is a concern that Mo Salah might not be fit for the second leg, but reports suggest he will probably make it, and all of the Reds big guns should be back in action. They will struggle to hold out against City and it would be no surprise to see Liverpool concede two or three goals. However, they are good enough on the break to get that all-important away goal and effectively finish the tie.

Real Madrid v Juventus

We’re also backing Real Madrid to win on the night and complete an excellent aggregate victory over Juventus. Real are 1.62Bet €100 to win €16231/50Bet £100 to win £162-161Bet $100 to win $1620.62Bet HK$100 to win HK$162-1.61Bet Rp100 to win Rp1620.6200Bet RM100 to win RM162  with BetVictor.

It was a great match last week and although Juve looked capable, they were taken apart by Real Madrid’s slick passing and attacking play. The game will be remembered for Ronaldo’s scintillating overhead kick and the Portuguese star is on fire at the moment after scoring yet again in the Madrid derby over the weekend.

Juventus have the unenviable task of trying to outscore Madrid on their own ground but they are unlikely to find a way back into this tie. Real are simply too strong and will punish Juve if they leave holes at the back as they push forward for goals.

Bayern Munich v Sevilla

Finally, Bayern Munich are fancied to steamroller Sevilla and cover the -1.5 Asian Handicap at odds of 1.63Bet €100 to win €16363/100Bet £100 to win £163-159Bet $100 to win $1630.63Bet HK$100 to win HK$163-1.59Bet Rp100 to win Rp1630.6300Bet RM100 to win RM163  with 888Sport.

Sevilla’s run to the quarter-finals culminated in a 2-1 away win at Manchester United, but that match was slightly tilted in their favour because the first leg had ended 0-0 and Mourinho’s men didn’t have the luxury of an away goal. Bayern have two away goals to their name after the first leg and that means Sevilla will have to come out and attack at some point as they try to reduce the deficit. That could leave them open at the back and Bayern are expected to take full advantage.
