Milan, Juventus and Napoli to Accumulate Home Wins

May 4, 2018

It is notoriously tricky to bet on the last few rounds of Italian Serie A seasons so one thinks that backing three home teams with a lot for which to play in a treble is probably the best way to approach this weekend’s card.

AC Milan v Verona

Saturday 5th May, 17:00 GMT

Milan and Verona will kick off the Italian Serie A round on Saturday and the Red and Blacks look like the first of the home bankers, albeit at short odds. Milan is seventh on the Italian Serie A ladder and right in the mix for a berth in next term’s UEFA Europa League tournament. Verona is 19th on the Italian Serie A ladder, seven points adrift of safety with three rounds remaining, including an away game versus Juventus, so the odds are stacked against Hellas avoiding the dreaded drop into Italy’s second division.

According to one’s Italian Serie A collateral form analysis, Milan holds a 17-0-2 lead over Verona, including progressive counts of 6-0-0, 8-0-1 and 16-0-2. Admittedly, the reverse Italian Serie A fixture ended in a shock 3-0 win for Verona but the weight of form points to Milan turning the tables on Hellas. On a more positive head-to-head note, Milan defeated Verona 3-0 at San Siro in an Italian Coppa Italia tie.

Juventus v Bologna

Saturday 5th May, 19:45 GMT

The next Italian Serie A game on the program is Juventus versus Bologna, also on Saturday. Juventus is four points clear at the top of the Italian Serie A ladder so two wins from its last three matches will secure the championship for the Old Lady. Bologna is 12th on the Italian Serie A ladder, safe from relegation and incapable of finishing higher than 10th and even that would require some amazing results.

According to one’s Italian Serie A collateral form analysis, Juventus boasts a 16-2-1 advantage over Bologna, including progressive counts of 8-0-0, 9-1-0 and 16-2-0. It is beyond doubt that Juventus is vastly superior to Bologna, not least because the Old Lady dominated the reverse fixture, running out 3-0 winners in December. Bologna is 0-1-8 in its nine Italian Serie A road matches against top-10 sides so the Red and Blues do not profile as being the team to upset Juventus and throw a title lifeline to second-ranked Napoli.

Napoli v Torino

Sunday 6th May, 14:00 GMT

Speaking of Napoli, the Partenopei completes one’s Italian Serie A treble. Napoli will line up against Torino on Sunday and the Partenopei, which thrashed the Maroons 3-1 in the reverse Italian Serie A fixture five months ago, should cruise to another three points versus visitors who have struggled to get the better of higher ranked opponents.

According to one’s Italian Serie A collateral form analysis, Napoli enjoys a 15-2-2 edge over Torino, including progressive counts of 4-0-0 and 10-0-1. Napoli is unbeaten in its Italian Serie A games against sides ranked outside the top eight, whereas Torino is 2-6-9 versus teams higher than its ranking of 10th, including losing 0-4 at Juventus.
