England To Compound Aussie Woes At Durham

June 20, 2018

England crushed Australia to wrap up their one-day international series by taking an unassailable 3-0 lead at Trent Bridge.

The Three Lions blasted a world-record 481 in their 50 overs, smashing their own milestone by 33 runs. The tourists were dispatched all over the park as Jonny Bairstow and Alex Hales both scored hundreds, while Eoin Morgan notched England’s fastest ODI half-century.

Australia were unable to respond to the ferocity of England’s assault. The Baggy Greens slipped to a 242-run defeat, their heaviest ODI loss in their history, while Morgan’s men record their largest margin of victory.

Although Tim Paine’s side have been weakened by the losses of Steve Smith and David Warner along with the injuries suffered by Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, the gulf in class between the two teams has been staggering.

England continue to display the dominance at the top of the 50-over format, with the Aussies hurtling down the world rankings. The Baggy Greens are now in a desperate battle to avoid a whitewash defeat at the hands of their biggest rivals.

They suffered a 4-1 loss on home soil with their key men in place and now have the challenge of knocking off the hosts at least once over the next two matches, beginning at Durham on Thursday.

Root will be looking to fire

England’s Top Batsman

The Three Lions flexed their batting power with an astounding array of hitting at Trent Bridge. Jason Roy, Bairstow, Hales and Morgan were at the peak of their powers. Bairstow and Hales were the ones to truly cash in, making their sixth hundreds in ODI cricket. Bairstow is in the form of his life at the top of the innings. He failed to notch a meaningful score in the opening two matches of the series, but made up for it in style. Australia could not bowl to him as he dominated seamers and spinners alike before falling for 139 – two shorts of his career best. Hales was equally as imperious on his home ground as he pilloried the tourists’ bowlers, smashing sixes aplenty into the stands. Hales needed an impressive knock at the crease to justify his place in the side.

He came to the fore just at the right time, highlighting the strength of depth England have their top order. The pressure slides elsewhere in the team and Joe Root’s inability to hit the ball into the stands was exposed. He’s not under threat of losing his place in the side due to his immense quality. Root is vital for the balance of the batting order, although he will want to capitalise on the weak Aussie attack by making a score in the middle this series. Back him to lead the way at odds of 4.75Bet €100 to win €47515/4Bet £100 to win £475+375Bet $100 to win $4753.75Bet HK$100 to win HK$4753.75Bet Rp100 to win Rp475-0.2667Bet RM100 to win RM475  with 888Sport.

Australia’s Top Batsman

The Baggy Greens faced a gargantuan task to chase down England’s world-record score. They were never going to be able to get over the line, but it was an opportunity to score runs on a flat deck with short boundaries. However, only one of their batsmen was able to pass fifty, despite the advantageous parameters at Trent Bridge. Travis Head played well to notch his half-century, but could not make the meaningful runs Australia needed to at least put the home side under pressure.

Head has been drafted into the side due to Warner’s absence. However, the 24-year-old has not been able to make the most out of his opportunity. He gave away his wicket for 51 when he was caught and bowled by Moeen Ali, wasting a decent platform to kick on. Head made a combined 24 in his previous two scores and will be under pressure to put a score on the board at Durham. Australia need a fast start from their openers. Head has enough experience in English conditions to thrive. Back him to lead the way for the Baggy Greens with Betway at 5.50Bet €100 to win €5509/2Bet £100 to win £550+450Bet $100 to win $5504.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$5504.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp550-0.2222Bet RM100 to win RM550 .

England’s Top Bowler

The England bowlers were handed a blank cheque in their efforts at Trent Bridge. Australia had to come out swinging to keep up with the required rate of almost 10 runs per over. As a result, there were chances aplenty for the bowlers. Mark Wood bowled well to keep the runs off the board, although he was not rewarded in the wicket column.

England’s spin twins Ali and Rashid once again tormented the Australia bowlers. Rashid was able to clean up the tail, while Ali was able to strike with regularity against the top order. The Yorkshire bowler used his variations on his leg-spin to bring a swift end to the game.

The Baggy Greens have had their issues against spin bowling for long time and this series has highlighted their need for improvement. Ali has been plucky after losing his place in the Test side. He has great value with his batting and ability to get through his 10 overs. Australia’s Top Bowler

Every Australia bowler had a game to forget as they were smashed around the park by England’s batsmen. Andrew Tye broke three figures off his nine overs, while Jhye Richardson was also close to breaking 100, despite a late revival. Billy Stanlake has displayed promise in the series, although even he came in for punishment from Bairstow and Hales. Spin has offered next to nothing for the Baggy Greens as Ashton Agar has struggled.

He went for 70, but did dismiss Bairstow to briefly disrupt England’s momentum. Changes could be afoot for the fourth match of the series, with Tye perhaps being withdrawn from the firing line. England have picked his slower balls, leaving him exposed towards the end of the innings. Richardson showed fight and at the age of 21, could provide depth for Australia for the future behind their key pace trio. Match Verdict

England are riding the crest of a wave at the moment. Their confidence is sky high and will be determined to put Australia to the sword. The Baggy Greens had no answer for England’s batting line-up or their spin bowlers. Expect those issues to continue at the Emirates Riverside, therefore take the Three Lions at odds of 1.45Bet €100 to win €1459/20Bet £100 to win £145-222Bet $100 to win $1450.45Bet HK$100 to win HK$145-2.22Bet Rp100 to win Rp1450.4500Bet RM100 to win RM145  with Betway.
