India To Clinch ODI Series At Lord’s?

July 13, 2018

India put forward a dominating performance to defeat England in the opening one-day international of the series at Trent Bridge.

England were inserted by Virat Kohli, and although Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow were able to get their side off to an electric start, the arrival of Kuldeep Yadav into the attack turned the game.

He dismissed the two openers before removing Joe Root, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes and David Willey, limiting the Three Lions to only 268 from their 50 overs.

Buttler and Stokes offered mild resistance, scoring fifties, although Stokes’ endured a struggle at the crease reaching his milestone off 102 balls.

India came out firing with the bat in their response. Shikhar Dhawan scored a brisk 40 before losing his wicket. Rohit Sharma continued his excellent form with another century against England, blasting their bowlers to all parts of the ground.

Sharma was partnered by his captain at the crease as Kohli found his form to knock down the total. The opener guided his to the winning total with ease, securing the victory by eight wickets.

For the second time of the tour, Eoin Morgan’s men have been exposed by the spin of Yadav, while their opening bowlers looked fairly toothless. England have to respond at Lord’s to avoid their first series defeat on home soil in the ODI format since 2015.

Kohli will be looking for the win

England’s Top Batsman

The Three Lions not for the first time in the ODI format have been troubled by leg-spin. Yadav tormented their batsmen as soon as he entered the attack. Roy and Bairstow had guided England to a good start to the contest, finding the boundary with relative ease. However, Yadav dismissed both players before continuing his dominance of Root at number three to leave England well off the pace.

Root has struggled over the course of the summer and lost his place in the T20 side. He will come under the spotlight after being preferred to Alex Hales. Should he continue to under perform, pressure will grow, making it imperative that he finds a way of coping with the spin of Yadav. He’s not alone as England’s power hitters, who have dominated the game since 2015, were stymied. Yadav bowled his 10 overs for the cost of just 25 runs with his six wickets.

Bairstow has the talent to get England off to a flier and he will need to find his range once again. With the World Cup on the horizon, the Three Lions cannot afford to be exposed on home soil by a potential challenger. Back the Yorkshireman to lead the way at odds of 4.25Bet €100 to win €42513/4Bet £100 to win £425+325Bet $100 to win $4253.25Bet HK$100 to win HK$4253.25Bet Rp100 to win Rp425-0.3077Bet RM100 to win RM425  with 888Sport.

India’s Top Batsman

Sharma was outstanding once again in the middle for India. He found his range in the final T20 match of the series, blasting his century at Bristol. The 31-year-old carried his form into the opening ODI, taking command of England’s quick bowlers to power his side over the line.

He reached his 18th century in the 50-over format off just 82 deliveries. Sharma played the anchor role to perfection aided by his power at the crease as he was able to elevate the level of his scoring towards the end of the innings. The opener finished unbeaten on 137 as England had no answer for his play the crease.

Kohli too was in fine form, knocking the ball around the ground with ease. He was able to pick his moments when to find the boundary. The India skipper will have been disappointed to lose his wicket when he was stumped off Adil Rashid for 75. However, expect him to be on top form at Lord’s once again. Back him to lead the way with the bat for his team at odds of 3.75Bet €100 to win €37511/4Bet £100 to win £375+275Bet $100 to win $3752.75Bet HK$100 to win HK$3752.75Bet Rp100 to win Rp375-0.3636Bet RM100 to win RM375  with 888Sport.

England’s Top Bowler

The Three Lions were in dire need of a performance from one of their bowlers after their batsmen failed to deliver in the middle. However, Mark Wood, Liam Plunkett failed to fire with the new ball, while India were able to see off the threat of Rashid and Alli.

Wood’s place in the side is under severe threat as his average is creeping towards 50 for every wicket. It’s not good enough for a strike bowler and may force Morgan and the coaching staff to turn elsewhere. Chris Woakes’ injury problems have left England short on talent in their ranks, although there is talent emerging from the Lions.

With the pacemen failing to fire, it places more pressure on Rashid to rise to the occasion. Morgan needs his main man to come to the fore at Lord’s to get his team back in the series. Back the leg-spinner to lead the wicket column at odds of 3.75Bet €100 to win €37511/4Bet £100 to win £375+275Bet $100 to win $3752.75Bet HK$100 to win HK$3752.75Bet Rp100 to win Rp375-0.3636Bet RM100 to win RM375  with Betway.

India’s Top Bowler

Yadav is slowly becoming one of the best bowlers in the shortest format of the game. His left-arm leg-spin has given England nightmares in the middle. The 23-year-old arrived in England with a solid reputation, but he will have the opportunity to leave as the man who tormented arguably the best batting line-up in the world. No one has come close to picking him yet, and although he has been aided by turning tracks due to the hot weather in the country, he has fully capitalised.

He was sensational at Trent Bridge where England have dominated bowlers in the past. Yadav may not be included in the Test squad, but should he continue to perform to this level, especially against Root. Expect him to continue to thrive against the Three Lions by using his variations in spin and pace at Lord’s, therefore take the 23-year-old to lead the wicket column at odds of 4.50Bet €100 to win €4507/2Bet £100 to win £450+350Bet $100 to win $4503.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$4503.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp450-0.2857Bet RM100 to win RM450  with 888Sport.

Match Verdict

England responded from their first onslaught from Yadav in the opening T20 match of the series with a victory at Sophia Gardens.

However, on this occasion, their bowling unit does not seem capable of picking up the slack should their batsmen fall short. As a result, take India to clinch the series at Lord’s with another victory, sending them into the Test series with momentum at odds of 1.75Bet €100 to win €1753/4Bet £100 to win £175-133Bet $100 to win $1750.75Bet HK$100 to win HK$175-1.33Bet Rp100 to win Rp1750.7500Bet RM100 to win RM175  with BetVictor.
