Fiorentina to Do the Donkey Work Versus Udinese

Fiorentina to do the donkey work versus Udinese

Fiorentina is one of five Italian Serie A teams yet to drop a point in the league and the Purples should maintain their unbeaten record with a home victory over Udinese on Sunday.

The Genoa bridge tragedy delayed Fiorentina’s Italian Serie A start – the Purples were scheduled to face Sampdoria on the road in Round One – but Stefano Pioli’s side made a statement in the second round, converting six of its 17 attempts in crushing Chievo 6-1. Five Fiorentina players scored against Chievo as the Purples made much more of their possession than the Flying Donkeys did with theirs.

Udinese has accrued four points from its first two Italian Serie A games but the Little Zebras will face tougher tasks than matches versus Parma and Sampdoria in the coming weeks. Udinese trailed newly promoted Parma 0-2 20 minutes into the second half of their Italian Serie A game in Round One and, on the balance of play, the Little Zebras were a little lucky to defeat Sampdoria rather than share the spoils.

Fiorentina boasts a good recent record against Udinese, with the Purples having won each of the last three meetings of the teams, including a 2-0 Italian Serie A away success in April and six consecutive home wins across all competitions.

One’s Italian Serie A headline selection is Fiorentina at odds of 1.62Bet €100 to win €16231/50Bet £100 to win £162-161Bet $100 to win $1620.62Bet HK$100 to win HK$162-1.61Bet Rp100 to win Rp1620.6200Bet RM100 to win RM162  with Betway and one’s other Round Three picks are Napoli and Atalanta.

Most Italian Serie A punters, myself included, were worried that Napoli would regress after the departure of Maurizio Sarri and the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti but the Partenopei have made up for an unconvincing set of pre-season results, posting back-to-back league victories over Lazio on the road and Milan in front of their own fanatical supporters.

The aforementioned bridge collapse meant that Sampdoria was out of action in the Italian Serie A’s opening round and, while the statistics of Samp’s Round Two match at Udinese suggest there were unfortunate not to pick up one point, they did not score versus a side considerably weaker than Napoli and, ultimately, they were the losing team. Back Napoli at odds of 1.55Bet €100 to win €15511/20Bet £100 to win £155-182Bet $100 to win $1550.55Bet HK$100 to win HK$155-1.82Bet Rp100 to win Rp1550.5500Bet RM100 to win RM155  with BetVictor.

It has been a very long time since Napoli lost any game against Sampdoria. Napoli has done the Italian Serie A double over Sampdoria in each of the last two terms, the Partenopei has registered five wins in a row versus Samp and, remarkably, there have been 14 clashes since Samp posted a 1-0 Italian Serie A home victory over the Partenopei in May 10 – that is eight years of hurt.

Atalanta at odds of 1.47Bet €100 to win €14747/100Bet £100 to win £147-213Bet $100 to win $1470.47Bet HK$100 to win HK$147-2.13Bet Rp100 to win Rp1470.4700Bet RM100 to win RM147  with 888sport will have to back up into Round Three of Italian Serie A from the UEFA Europa League but the Goddess is in sufficiently good form to warrant backing them to collect three domestic points from its Sunday home date with a Cagliari side that is not playing particularly well.

Active in the UEFA Europa League for several weeks prior to the Italian Serie A tournament getting under way, Atalanta made a flying start to its domestic championship, thrashing Frosinone 4-0. It was a miracle that Kobenhavn left Bergamo with a 0-0 UEFA Europa League draw following 90 minutes of Atalanta domination and the raw deals continued for the Goddess when they drew 3-3 at Italian Serie A rival Roma after leading 3-1 at half time and 3-2 inside the last 10 minutes. Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini is on the record saying that he and his players are treating the UEFA Europa League seriously but one does not see the Goddess neglecting Italian Serie A, especially winnable home matches such as this weekend’s clash with a mediocre Cagliari outfit.

Collateral form lines will start to emerge over the next few Italian Serie A rounds and, once they do, one will use them to highlight statistically sound cases for backing the teams which most bookmakers and punters are underestimating.
