Saints To Crush Eagles To Maintain Dominant Run

The reigning Super Bowl champions the Philadelphia Eagles are facing a huge contest against the team of the 2018 NFL season to date the New Orleans Saints.

Philadelphia were 4-4 entering their contest against the Dallas Cowboys last week, but suffered a damaging defeat at the hands of their NFC East Rivals. The Eagles are now off the pace in their division and are in a desperate battle to remain in contention for the defence of their crown.

New Orleans Saints

The Saints have been outstanding bar their defeat at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the opening day of the campaign. Since then Payton’s men have been flawless, winning seven matches on the bounce. Their performance against the Rams has shifted the power in the NFC Conference, with the NFC South outfit holding the number one seed.

New Orleans’ offense has been the force behind their surge to the top. Brees has played the best football of his career, throwing 21 touchdowns to just one interception over the course of the campaign. He has completed a staggering 77% of his passes this term, which would break his own record of 72% set last season.

Brees along with Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara have been the foundation of the Saints’ success. Kamara has 1,000 yards from scrimmage and 14 touchdowns on the year, while Thomas has 950 receiving yards and seven scores. Outside of the duo the Saints have had enough production out of Tre’Quan Smith, Benjamin Watson and Mark Ingram.

Payton’s side lead the NFL in scoring this term, averaging 36.7 points per game. They dismantled the Bengals with ease last week, putting up 52 points on the road. Expect them to maintain those levels for the rest of the campaign with Brees pursuing his first MVP award.

New Orleans’ defense has had ups and down this term. They were exposed by the Rams in the second half of their contest last time out on home soil. As long as their offense continues to score with regularity there will be ample opportunities for Cameron Jordan, Marcus Davenport and Sheldon Rankins to get to the quarterback.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles are on a slippery slope in the NFC East after losing to the Cowboys last time out. Philadelphia allowed the Dallas’ offense that has struggled for the majority of the season put 27 points on the board to secure the win on the road. Carson Wentz had a good statistical performance, throwing for over 350 yards and two touchdowns. However, he failed to make the decisive plays to triumph in the contest.

Zach Ertz produced a huge display, notching 145 yards and catching the two strikes in the endzone from his quarterback. Outside of the duo, there was not a great deal of support from his team-mates. Wentz committed a costly interception when his pass was picked off by Leighton Vander Esch, highlighting how far the Eagles are removed from the offensive juggernaut that marched to the Super Bowl last term.

Philadelphia had huge issues against the run against Dallas. Ezekiel Elliott was able to surge through the line of scrimmage with ease, rushing for 151 yards and a touchdown. Elliott averaged 7.9 yards per carry proving his dominance. It will be just as difficult for the Eagles’ defense against Kamara and the Saints’ offensive line, who have been dominant.

The club’s pass-rush was supposed to be a position of strength, but they’ve not quite clicked into a formidable unit as of yet. Michael Bennett has notched 5.5 sacks on the term, while Fletcher Cox has enjoyed another strong season. They have to find a way to pressure Brees in the pocket to ensure that they’re not blown away by the Saints.

Payton’s men had previously beaten the Eagles in the Wildcard Round of the post-season in the 2013 campaign in a narrow 26-24 triumph.
