Saints To Keep Rolling Against Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have a chance to prove their playoff credentials in a clash against the vaunted New Orleans Saints on Thursday Night Football.

Dallas have turned a corner over the last three weeks, reeling off three-straight wins to move to the top of the NFC East. Jason Garrett was a man under pressure in his role, but his team have found their form to put themselves in position to reach the post-season.

The Cowboys capitalised on the Washington Redskins’ injury woes to claim a vital victory over their divisional rivals on Thanksgiving. However, they now face a massive challenge to keep their momentum going against the Saints, who have been unstoppable this term.

New Orleans have been outstanding this season and are seemingly on their way to securing the number one seed in the NFC Conference. Sean Payton’s side have won 10 matches in a row, scoring with ease on offense due to the brilliance of Drew Brees.

The Cowboys have found life in their season and have moved to the top of the NFC East. Dak Prescott has started to find a semblance of his 2016 form. The 25-year-old has been maligned for his performances over the past two seasons. However, the addition of Amari Cooper has unlocked his potential once again. Dallas’ move to acquire Cooper for a first-round pick was criticised by the majority of pundits. Although if he continues to produce two-touchdown, 180-yard displays, those doubters will be proved wrong.

Cooper has made a seamless transition into the offense and a threat downfield has opened up the running game for Ezekiel Elliott. Elliott is the key to the Cowboys’ success. He has rushed for over 100 yards in their winning run, surpassing the 1,000-yard mark for the season in their win over the Falcons. Controlling the tempo of the game will be crucial against New Orleans along with the other high-powered teams in the NFC. Dallas could be a dark horse as their defense has the talent to get important stops. However, their offense has to keep clicking and not miss a beat, especially against the Saints.

New Orleans Saints

The Saints have been unstoppable this season on offense. It terms of efficiency they’re operating at a higher level than the best two offenses in NFL history – the 2013 Denver Broncos and the 2007 New England Patriots. Payton’s men are not quite on course to match their points’ tally, but they’re still executing at a ridiculously high level at the moment. Brees has been sensational and is well on his way to being named MVP of the league for the first time. The 39-year-old has thrown 29 touchdowns to just one interception, completing 76.4% of his passes downfield. Thomas and Kamara have been the key to their success, getting open and evading tacklers with ease. The former has recorded over 1,000 receiving yards and has been impossible to lock down for opposing cornerbacks.

Kamara is a nightmare for defenses to handle due to his dual ability to run through the tackles and catch the ball out of the backfield. Their quality has opened up the passing game for the rest of the offense as even unheralded players are starting to produce for the Saints. On the other side of the ball, the defense has been allowed to tee off. The two units are working well together, unleashing a formidable pass-rush on opposing quarterbacks. Cameron Jordan has been excellent, maintaining his high standards. Sheldon Rankins and Marcus Davenport have risen to the occasion, with the former being a force in the middle of the line. The Saints are a well-oiled machine and it will take a special effort to stop them.
