Eagles, Cowboys, Dolphins All To Win NFL Week 16

December 21, 2018

It’s do-or-die time for the teams in the NFL that are pushing for places in the playoffs. Their fate may come down to the final two weeks of the campaign to keep their respective seasons alive.

The Philadelphia Eagles – the reigning Super Bowl champions – are in a desperate battle to maintain the defence of their crown. They beat the Los Angeles Rams last week with an inspired performance, but need to keep the winning formula going this week.

They are one of five teams that you should pick in your teaser for this week’s round of matches. We break down their contest and the other four games below.

Will Foles lead the Eagles to another triumph?

Houston Texans @ Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles produced the level of form that won the club the Super Bowl in their victory over the Rams last week. Nick Foles was recalled to the line-up in place of Carson Wentz in eerily similar circumstances to the last campaign. He was outstanding in the win at the Coliseum, putting Los Angeles’ defense to the sword with a number of throws downfield to Alshon Jeffery. The defense rose to the occasion to limit Jared Goff and company, fending off a late comeback attempt. Philadelphia cannot afford to rest on their laurels at 7-7 in their campaign. Two victories may be enough to see them through to the post-season where they could be dangerous prospect as the sixth seed.

On the other side, opportunity knocks for the Texans to notch the number two seed in the AFC. They know that two victories in the final two weeks of the campaign will see them notch a first-round bye. Bill O’Brien’s men have not been perfect over the last 11 weeks, although their 10-1 record would suggest otherwise. The Texans were good enough to beat the New York Jets on the road by a touchdown, although the Eagles will present a tougher challenge. Take the Eagles to get the job done at odds 1.80Bet €100 to win €1804/5Bet £100 to win £180-125Bet $100 to win $1800.80Bet HK$100 to win HK$180-1.25Bet Rp100 to win Rp1800.8000Bet RM100 to win RM180  with Bovada.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys took a huge step back last week. A win would have secured the NFC East for the club, but they were shut out on the road against the Indianapolis Colts – putting a blank on the board for the first time in 15 years. Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott and Amari Cooper had found life over the last month to send Jason Garrett’s men on a charge for the division crown, although on this occasion they were held in check. Dallas’ defense were exposed by their offense and were powerless to stop their slide slipping to a 23-point defeat. The Cowboys will have an opportunity to get right against the Buccaneers and get over the line.

There will be plays to be made against one of the worst defenses in the NFL. Tampa Bay have not completely given up on their season, despite being knocked out of playoff contention. They’ve played competitive games against the New Orleans Saints and the Baltimore Ravens over the past two weeks. Dirk Koetter’s men will not make life easy for the Cowboys. However, Dallas have the quality on both sides of the ball to get the job done at odds of 1.32Bet €100 to win €1328/25Bet £100 to win £132-313Bet $100 to win $1320.32Bet HK$100 to win HK$132-3.13Bet Rp100 to win Rp1320.3200Bet RM100 to win RM132  with BetOnline.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins suffered from a let-down game last week following the ‘Miami Miracle’. They were unable to use the euphoria of defeating the New England Patriots on their miracle scramble drill on the final play of the game in their clash against the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings poured on the agony with a hammering of Adam Gase’s men, putting 41 points on the board. Miami are a different team at home, winning six of their seven matches. They should be able to bounce back to keep themselves in the playoff race heading into the final week of the campaign.

Ryan Tannehill has been solid enough at the quarterback position since his return from injury. He and his team-mate are playing a dispirited Jacksonville side that could have one eye on the beach. Their season has been an abject failure, being unable to build on reaching the AFC Championship Game last term. They’ve won only one of their last 10 matches and somehow lost to the Washington Redskins, who are down to their fourth-string quarterback. Back the Dolphins for the win at odds 1.53Bet €100 to win €15353/100Bet £100 to win £153-189Bet $100 to win $1530.53Bet HK$100 to win HK$153-1.89Bet Rp100 to win Rp1530.5300Bet RM100 to win RM153  with Bovada.

Minnesota Vikings @ Detroit Lions

The Vikings proved a point in their win over the Dolphins last week. Minnesota fired offensive coordinator Joe DeFilippo after their loss to the Seattle Seahawks due to differences with head coach Mike Zimmer. The club’s performance against the Dolphins suggested that maybe Zimmer had as point about their lack of prowess on offense with DeFilippo’s play-calling. Dalvin Cook was explosive out of the backfield, scoring two touchdowns, while Kirk Cousins improved the level of his play from over the last month in the rout. The Vikings have to sustain their form to ensure they keep their spot in the post-season.

They’re currently the sixth seed, but are under pressure from the Eagles. Detroit are out of the running and suffered another poor defeat to the Buffalo Bills last time out. Matt Patricia will be given a second season at the helm, but he will have to hit the ground running next term. He has managed to get his team up for the big matches at home. The Lions have defeated the Green Bay Packers, Carolina Panthers and the Patriots at Ford Field. Whether they have enough to beat the Vikings is another matter in a crunch game. Back the Vikings for the win at odds of 1.40Bet €100 to win €1402/5Bet £100 to win £140-250Bet $100 to win $1400.40Bet HK$100 to win HK$140-2.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp1400.4000Bet RM100 to win RM140  with TopBet.

Green Bay Packers @ New York Jets

The Packers are limping towards the end of the season, both figuratively and literally as Aaron Rodgers has suffered another injury. He has been trouble with a knee problem since the opening day of the term, but now has another ailment due to a groin issue. Rodgers has insisted that he will play on despite his injury problems, which may not be the best idea given the Packers are out of post-season contention. New York will be aiming to capitalise on a poor Green Bay outfit that are heading towards a rebuild in the off-season.

The Packers dropped to 5-8-1 in their term and are staring down the possibility of their worst record since Rodgers’ first season when they went 6-10. Todd Bowles’ is also heading towards a likely firing at the end of the campaign even though his young team have displayed no absence of fight. They battled the Texans for four quarters, falling narrowly short. The clash against the Packers is an important one for rookie quarterback Sam Darnold. He can make a statement by outduelling Rodgers on home soil – back him and his team to get the job done at odds of 2.40Bet €100 to win €2407/5Bet £100 to win £240+140Bet $100 to win $2401.40Bet HK$100 to win HK$2401.40Bet Rp100 to win Rp240-0.7143Bet RM100 to win RM240  with TopBet.
