Eagles, Chargers, Texans All To Win NFL Week 17

December 28, 2018

We’ve arrived at the final week of the NFL season, and although the majority of teams have secured their places in the playoffs, the seedings still need to be rectified.

The number one seed in the AFC is still up for grabs after the Kansas City Chiefs’ defeat to the Seattle Seahawks last week, even though the Chiefs can still secure the spot with a home banker against the Oakland Raiders.

The reigning Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles are in dire need of the Chicago Bears to defeat the Minnesota Vikings to allow them to defend to return their crown in the playoffs. Although some matches may appear to be dead rubbers, they still hold significance for the future of players and coaches. We’ll now break down the five games that should be in your teaser.

Will Foles lead the Eagles to another victory?

Philadelphia Eagles @ Washington Redskins

The equation for the Eagles is simple. They have to defeat the Redskins and hope that the Vikings falter at home to the Bears for the club to reach the playoffs. Philadelphia have rallied in the second half of the campaign, winning four out of their last five games.

Even without starting quarterback Carson Wentz, the club have rekindled the spirit of last term in their run to the Super Bowl as Nick Foles has stepped into the breech and performed brilliantly to defeat the Los Angeles Rams and the Texans. The frustrating aspect of those victories for the Eagles is that those two teams are heading for the post-season, while they’re calling for favours from the Bears.

Doug Pederson’s men have suffered a hangover from their triumph, but could still earn the sixth seed by defeating the Redskins. Washington have been the victim of the injury bug in the second half of the campaign. No team has suffered more devastating losses than Jay Gruden’s side, while quarterback Alex Smith may never take to the field again such is the severity of his leg injury. They’ve battled well in the circumstances, but given the Eagles’ need for the win, back them to triumph at odds of 1.33Bet €100 to win €13333/100Bet £100 to win £133-303Bet $100 to win $1330.33Bet HK$100 to win HK$133-3.03Bet Rp100 to win Rp1330.3300Bet RM100 to win RM133  with TopBet.

Los Angeles Chargers @ Denver Broncos

The Chargers allowed the number one seed to slip through their grasp last week in their defeat to the Baltimore Ravens. Antonio Gates’ fumble cost Los Angeles the game, leaving Anthony Lynn’s men faced with the prospect of playing in the Wildcard Round as the number five seed. The top seed in the AFC could still open up for the Chargers, although it will require the Chiefs to suffer a stunning loss to the Raiders on home soil. Los Angeles have to take care of business on the road first, and it will not be an easy task.

Lynn’s men dropped their home game against the Broncos, losing out to a last-minute field goal. Therefore the pressure will be on the Chargers to make amends and take momentum into the playoffs. Their potent offense was stymied by the Ravens last week, which may hand Denver an opportunity to make it a close game. However, Case Keenum and the Broncos’ offense have struggled throughout the campaign and should not be able to score enough points on Los Angeles’ defense. Take the Chargers for the win at odds of 1.35Bet €100 to win €1357/20Bet £100 to win £135-286Bet $100 to win $1350.35Bet HK$100 to win HK$135-2.86Bet Rp100 to win Rp1350.3500Bet RM100 to win RM135  with BetOnline.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Houston Texans

The Texans seemingly have an endless list of playoff permutations heading into the final week of the campaign. They lost their grip of the number two seed in their defeat to the Eagles, allowing the New England Patriots to move back into the spot. Houston can still secure a bye in the playoffs, although they will need favours from the Raiders, Broncos and New York Jets for their rivals to lose. On the other hand Bill O’Brien’s men can drop down as far as the number six seed if they were to suffer a defeat, with either the Tennessee Titans or the Indianapolis Colts replacing them as the third seed and winning the AFC South crown.

The Texans have lost Demaryius Thomas for the season with an Achilles’ injury, leaving them without a foil to DeAndre Hopkins. Their defense has not looked as strong as previous campaigns, allowing the Eagles to march down the field late on to secure the win last week. However, Deshaun Watson was outstanding even in the loss. If he can remain at that level of form, Houston could be very dangerous in the post-season. Watson’s pedigree will see them past the Jaguars, who will likely raise the white flag, at odds of 1.35Bet €100 to win €1357/20Bet £100 to win £135-286Bet $100 to win $1350.35Bet HK$100 to win HK$135-2.86Bet Rp100 to win Rp1350.3500Bet RM100 to win RM135  with BetOnline.

Dallas Cowboys @ New York Giants

The Cowboys are locked into the fourth spot in the NFC playoffs and will likely host the Seattle Seahawks on Wildcard weekend. Dallas have not been great in the playoffs of late and have developed a habit of losing momentum towards the end of the campaign. Jason Garrett will be determined to avoid this fate once again and may opt to play his starters against the Giants despite the risk of injury. Dallas have been up and down throughout the campaign, but have won six out of their last seven matches.

They have to maintain that level of form to reach the latter stages of the post-season and will face a challenge against a Giants side that has been improving. Pat Shurmur has done enough to secure a second season in charge of the NFC East side, while Eli Manning will be desperate to prove that he has enough left in the rank for another run. It should be a close contest, but the Cowboys have the talent on both sides of the ball to earn their 10th win at odds of 3.30Bet €100 to win €33023/10Bet £100 to win £330+230Bet $100 to win $3302.30Bet HK$100 to win HK$3302.30Bet Rp100 to win Rp330-0.4348Bet RM100 to win RM330  with BetOnline.

Miami Dolphins @ Buffalo Bills

After their failure to defeat the Jaguars last week, the Dolphins were eliminated from the playoff picture for the 15th time in the last 17 years. All eyes are on the future of the club with reports suggesting that ownership are ready to move on from quarterback Ryan Tannehill. The 30-year-old has struggled to elevate the level of his game in the six years he has played for Miami, while he has also suffered a number of injury problems over the last two seasons. As a result, the contest in Buffalo could well be Tannehill’s last as a Miami player and he will want to bow out on a high note.

Head coach Adam Gase needs a victory as well to justify faith in his coaching. After starting the season 3-0, the Dolphins have won only four out of their last 12, including the “Miami Miracle”. Buffalo will soundly beaten by the Patriots last week and will have long-term concerns about quarterback Josh Allen, who has been inconsistent in his rookie term along with suffering injuries. New England were able to run the ball with ease and expect the Dolphins to follow their gameplan to defeat the Bills on the road at odds of 2.95Bet €100 to win €29539/20Bet £100 to win £295+195Bet $100 to win $2951.95Bet HK$100 to win HK$2951.95Bet Rp100 to win Rp295-0.5128Bet RM100 to win RM295  with BetOnline.
